Artist Bio:
Leslie Putnam has worked in London for over 20 years as an artist and educator. Her past experiences include shows in London, Toronto and Montreal and Europe. As a multimedia artist, Putnam works to engage with the audience through both materials and concepts that question our connection to nature, our influence on it and from it.
Artist Statement:
Functional ceramics allow for touch to be a major part of the experience of the handmade object, yet sculptural work is generally made to be viewed. It is my desire to create works that cross this boundary, sculptural works that are meant to be held. Why have we allowed sculpture to become mainly a visual experience, when we know intuitively that the sculptor creates with touch as the main vehicle of creation? My work explores this different modality as a possibility for new ways of experiencing ceramics.
