Artist Statement:
‘My work explores flesh and memory through an ‘excavation’ in paint and language; a wrestling of an image and sensation from the process. I create large oil paintings which explore flesh in a historical and contemporaneous manner. I experiment with the nature of language within both a visual and performative context. Within my practice I create a dialogue between memory captured in the tangible forum of painting and the ephemeral nature of performance i.e. my poetry. One fluctuates within the constraints of ‘object’ while the other slips away. My work demands attention like prayer–that the viewer must continually attempt to hold the varying sensations and images that glimmer forth. My paintings and poetry centralizes around this act of attempting to capture and pinpoint the fleeting.’
