Artist Statement:
In my practice I utilize painting to reexamine historical ideas of flesh and landscape in a modern context. Within my work I explore body and landscape; creating a dialogue between classical landscapes and the classical nude with that of a contemporary landscape and nude. My work nods at a conscious deterioration and the growing restrictions (resources, borders, construction, expansion) in a depleting natural world. Through my work I explore the arrangements of identity and desire within land and flesh. Through depictions of the entanglement of land with body and object with flesh the work examines the inheritance of place and flesh creating a unique portrait of reality, fantasy and memory. My paintings readdress works within the canon of western art — deconstructing subject to movement and palette in the throes of ruin. My paintings are a critical portrayal of classical ideas readdressed within a modern landscape; they become painterly landfills.
