Artist Bio:
Daumante Stirbyte is a Lithuanian born ceramic artist, who has been residing in Ireland the past ten years. She graduated from the National College of Art and Design (Dublin) in 2016 with first class honours BDes in Craft Design. Her work has been exhibited in numerous group shows and is included in several private collections in Ireland. Since becoming the artist in residence at the London Clay Art Centre she has participated in shows, has been teaching classes and workshops, as well as working as a studio technician assistant.
Daumante’s work is highly detailed and includes delicate sculptures that are hand built from porcelain and stoneware clays. She aims to instill a sense of curiosity and wonder in the viewer – as well as explore the notion of the ‘unknown’ through unexpected combinations of shapes, colour and surface treatments.
Artist Statement:
Daumante Stirbyte is a ceramics artist who is fascinated with the natural world and the unusual creatures with whom we share the planet with. Her research often delves into deep sea exploration, microscopic close ups of plant and animal word – things that often go by unseen or unnoticed. Blurring the lines between reality and fantasy, her work suggests the eerie possibility of life forms that we are not aware of.
