Artist Bio:
Flora Douglas Betts, aka ‘Dougie’ (1914 – 2008) graduated from the Ontario College of Art where her instruction was influenced by the Group of Seven and other Canadian Masters including Emily Carr. Dougie also graduated with an Honours Degree in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario. She taught Art and Art History for twenty-five years at Matthews Hall, in London, Ontario. She also worked as a fashion artist and was often commissioned to create portraits I oils or pastels. Dougie exhibited extensively in Ontario. Two of her most successful shows were inspired by her extensive travels to the Canadian Arctic and to Asia; this work is from her time in the Arctic.
