Statement
My print has a classic silent film aesthetic. It resembles a single frame from a reel in what I imagine to be a bittersweet slapstick comedy. The scratches, although unintentional, work with this aesthetic, especially with the sepia ink – both give the print a vintage quality. The aquatint technique gives the print a grainy gradience that is also reminiscent of early twentieth-century silent film. The letterpress narrates the image as well as contributes to the aesthetic since silent films relied on frames of text to give narration to the story.
