Statement:
Michael (Mick) Durham studied at the Leeds College of Art in the UK. In 1970 he was recruited to teach in the recently opened Fine Art Department at Fanshawe College in London. He retired in 2003 and still lives and works in London.
This piece was purchased from the artist in 1973 after an exhibition at Trajectory Gallery at 381½ Talbot Street. This work is part of the first series Durham did after coming to Canada.
A large painting Yellow Monarch 1972 and a similar drawing were purchased by the London Art Gallery and are now in the collection of Museum London. There is also a mural from the same series that was commissioned for the Federal Court House, which opened in 1974.
