Bio:
Born in Stratford, Ontario, Ronald studied with Jock Macdonald at the Ontraio College of Art, Toronto (1947-1951); and with Hans Hofmann, New York City (1962). Working in oil, acrylic, watercolour, casein, photo-etching, silkscreen, and lithography, his paintings are Abstract Expressionist in style often applying dramatic colours with a palatte knife, spray gun, or caulking gun. His action paintings turned to Hard Edge in 1970-1975. He was founding member of Painters Eleven, lived in NewYork City (1955-1965), worked as a broadcaster for CBC radio and television in 1965-1972, and received a Canada Council award in 1977. He exhibited with the RCA in 1951, 1953, 1964, and 1970, and held solo exhibitions with the MAC in 1975 and AGO in 1984. One of his murals is in the National Arts Centre, Ottawa, Ontario. His work is in the collections of the AGO, AIC, Brooklyn Museum, CCAB, EAG, Guggenheim Museum, MMFA, MOMA, NGC, RMG and Whitney Museum of Art, New York City.
