Artist Statement

Roly Fenwick is well-known for his lush oil and loose watercolour paintings. He draws inspiration from the Bruce Peninsula, which he refers to as his “ancestral bloodroots”. He frequently migrates to his Big Bay cottage to produce drawings, sketches and small paintings of the landscape, referenced for larger works. Fenwick explains his “interest is not in scenery but in probing to reveal the forces beneath the veneer”. His oil paintings thoroughly reflect this interest in revealing the sources of nature. One is continually drawn in to feel the lushness and spirit of the Canadian landscape.
