Artist Bio:

This work by Toronto-based artist, Trudie Cheng, was among three in a series from the collection of the late Ben Portis (1960 –2017), a beloved Canadian artist, curator, and critic. He purchased it from Open Studio in 2005. Trudie Cheng select exhibitions include: MacLaren Art Centre, 2006), AGO, 2007, Magic Pony, 2006, Cambridge Galleries, 2007, Lonsdale Gallery, 2005, and Art Metropole, 2004.

Artist Statement:

Trudie Cheng works in drawing, fibre-based processes such as needlework and appliqué and known for her immaculate, uncompromising handmade multiples, wearable art and artworks. Her simplified imagery and solidly coloured motifs possess a childlike appearance, but her arrangements speak of a darker environmental and physiological meanings.
