Carriare/Racetrack

Donated by Lucretia & Wyn Geleynse

Statement:
I traded a work with Bill while doing an exhibition in Calgary. If I recall the image is of the railcar in which the original treaty of Versailles was signed and the same cart that Hitler used to undo it.

Bill now lives in Kingston and is an important Canadian war artist.

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, William Macdonell is a well known Calgary artist and teacher. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Macdonnell was a painting instructor at the Alberta College of Art and Design for 25 years. His work is concerned with how society documents and perceives history.
