Artist Bio:
Helen Gregory holds a BFA in painting, printmaking, and art history from Concordia University, an MPhil in humanities from Memorial University, and a PhD in visual culture from Western University. Gregory’s work as a visual artist has been acquired by several significant public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the National Library of Canada, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Rooms Art Gallery, and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. In both her studio and curatorial work, Gregory is interested in (among other things) natural history, bio-art and biotechnology, taxidermy, cabinets of curiosity, and the history of museum collections. Originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Gregory now makes her home in London where she is curator at McIntosh Gallery.
Artist Statement:
This image was also the subject of a larger painting that was featured for two seasons on the set of The Inn Chef with Michael Smith, and which is now in the permanent collection of the Rooms Art Gallery.
