From the Collection of Bob and Shelly Siskind
Artist Bio:
DUKE was based on a photograph taken of the famous grouper by Bob Siskind on Andros, an out Island of the Bahamas. Tourists visiting Small Hope Bay Lodge, a resort famous for its diving, would not miss the 35 ft dive to “The Barge” to view Duke in his habitat. RUDOLF BIKKERS, notable print maker and then owner of Editions Canada, liked the image and Bob was interested in learning about the silk screen process. A collaboration ensued and this print, part of a limited edition, is the result of their efforts. Bikkers moved to Toronto to become head of Printmaking at the Ontario College of Art. For Siskind this venture marks the end of his time as a print maker, he returned to his career as an entrepreneur. Sadly, Duke was killed by a spearfisherman many years later. He remains immortalized in this print.
